An Interview with Mike Buonaiuto, director of Equal Marriage Film Project

“What do you do when the government says they are going to change the marriage laws in the UK? Those against the idea will of course go to any lengths to let David Cameron know how they feel, while many who support the idea sit back and do nothing, and why shouldn’t they? The government has made the commitment to change. However, I would argue that if enough support isn’t shown for the consultation then who knows what will happen.
The apathy within the communities that support the equalization of civil marriage is the single driving factor for making the film and why hundreds of talented professionals have helped us for free. The film is there to make audiences feel something about the issue, because when people feel something they do something about it. They don’t sit back. They don’t do nothing. They share, they support and they take notice.
The project has brought together a team of professionals from all over the world, from LA, to London to Australia. Through Twitter, a passionate idea has become a reality and the voluntary contributions towards the project have been overwhelming. It just goes to show if you have a good idea, that people feel passionate about, everyone from colourists, to actors, to producers to marketers will help you make it a success. Even my parents, brother and 6 year old sister volunteered as extras on the shoot. It means so much to be for them to appear in the film.
One day I would like to marry my partner of almost 5 years and the celebration of our commitment should mean no more or less than any other straight couple. I made the film to promote change and also inspire others to use their creativity to support equality and make history happen, not sit back and passively watch it.
The short film shows British forces returning home to greet their loved ones, with the reunion of one soldier and his partner soon turning into a surprise marriage proposal. The film looks to tackle the opposition head on, arguing if all have the right to serve in British military regardless of sexuality, then all should be able celebrate their love and commitment with civil marriage, free from discrimination.
The short film stars James Knight, from London’s West End (Mamma Mia,) and rising screen-star Lew Smart. Please support the project by sharing it with your friends, hashtag #equalmarriage and sign the Coalition For Equal Marriage petition at www.C4EM.org.uk.”
Homecoming

An independent short film from the Coalition of Equal Marriage is the first of its kind to rally support using Facebook and Twitter, ahead of the government’s plans to redefine UK civil marriage to include same-sex couples.
Produced by award winning young filmmaker, Mike Buonaiuto, the short film shows British forces returning home to greet their loved ones, with the reunion of one soldier and his partner soon turning into a surprise marriage proposal. The film looks to tackle the opposition head on, arguing if all have the right to serve in British military regardless of sexuality, then all should be able celebrate their love and commitment with civil marriage, free from discrimination.

The Coalition For Equal Marriage is a grassroots campaign established by partners Conor Marron and James Lattimore. It has since grown into a strong group of individuals and organisations coming together to support the government’s plans for greater equality.

First Twitter-based commercial?

Did a smart car company in Argentina just create the first Twitter-based commercial?
But for the ASCII, it’s a classic setup for a car commercial—a little smart car takes the scenic route from city to country and back, eventually maneuvering into a tight parking space between two large vehicles, showing off its size.
In this case though, 456 Tweets by the company Smart Argentina (@SmartArg) tell the story. Viewed as series of Tweets, the piece is a kind of low-fi parallax scroll, or a flipbook where each Tweet is a re-Tweetable “page” that “moves” the car forward.
See it here and hold down the “J” button: https://twitter.com/#!/smartArg
While the handle Tweets in Spanish, the only relevant language here is visual. Clever use of the Twitter machine. Seen anything else like this? Direct us to it if you have!

Jon Ronson arranges a meeting with the creators of the twitter spambot ‘Jon_Ronson’. After some heated discussion and confusion in this interview, he discovers the academics’ true agenda.

Escape & Control is an online documentary series in which internationally acclaimed journalist and filmmaker Jon Ronson (Adventures with Extremists, The Men Who Stare At Goats and The Psychopath Test) turns his attentions to the Internet.
It can sometimes feel like we’re creating a new kind of democracy online, where we control and regulate each other instead of being told how to behave by those in authority. But there are people out there who don’t like this idea at all. So they want to come up with ways to control it.
Sometimes maybe even secret ways…
With searing interviews, unravelling mysteries and some great fun along the way, Jon Ronson is setting off on an adventure that may mean you’ll never look at your mouse in the same way again.

Stooshe | Betty Woz Gone

A line in Stooshe’s bio describes them as ‘Salt N’ Pepa meet Odd Future’ while the Guardian recently pegged the London trio as an ‘X Rated En Vogue’. To some extent, Stooshe’s beginnings (they formed in January 2011) resemble that of the usual girlband – two of the members were spotted and recruited in Topshop by a songwriting and stylist team.
But the similarities end there. All three members (Karis, Courtney and Alex) write their own material and have been whipping up a bit of a storm with their infectiously catchy, very sweary and distinctly British brand of urban pop. A support slot on a tour with N-Dubz and a free download (The Stoosh Tape) generated a lot of buzz and before long the trio were paired with producer Futurecut (Wretch 32, Lily Allen, Prof. Green, Plan B) and had landed a deal with Warners.
The video for their first single Betty Woz Gone (based on a true story, it’s a sorry tale of a young mother more interested in a good time than looking after her kids) has currently racked up the best part of 200,000 views on Youtube. Expect to hear much much more of these young ladies (with a few bleeps here and there, perhaps).

RailCommute – iPhone App
RailCommute is an app for UK rail users who travel on the same route regularly.

The app allows you to find your next train, it’s platform and any delays at the touch of a single button. Once you’ve caught your train, RailCommute lets you tell your chosen contacts (partner/friends/colleagues) what time you are due to arrive via Facebook and Twitter as well as text and email. Your train is then ‘tagged’ so you can follow your progress en-route. Another great feature is the ability to view Twitter updates from your rail provider within the app – which when things go wrong is a great way of knowing what’s happening! The app is powered and approved by Network Rail Enquires, so you also have peace of mind that the information is constant and accurate.
RailCommute is priced at £2.99 and is available for download from Apple’s App Store now.
Features include:
