The last insect.
The last insect.

This is the last pollinating visitor to our garden – bombus ruderatus, the large garden bumblebee. It still seems to be out and about visiting the hot lips salvias in spite of the cool, wet weather. I do hope it’s not going to be the actual ‘ last ‘ as in ‘ the last dodo ‘ or ‘ the last passenger pigeon ‘. Insect life in general is in critical decline so here’s hoping that we shall see lots more of its kind next year in spite of the steep reduction in numbers of insects generally.
