The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) announced in May 2011 that Brands Hatch, in West Kingsdown in the Sevenoaks District, will be the venue for the prestigious Paralympic Road Cycling events between 5 and 8 September 2012.
The former F1 Grand Prix circuit will account for approximately half of the course, including the start and finish. The remaining part of the race will take place on local roads nearby. View the 2012 Paralympic cycle route ( PDF File 161KB file details).
The course allows LOCOG to use much of the existing venue infrastructure at Brands Hatch and is approximately one hour away from the Athletes' Village in the Olympic Park.
There will be a total of 32 road cycling events with 155 men and 70 women athletes from 40 nations taking part. Events consist of mass start road races and individual and team time trials for athletes with a range of disabilities including visual impairments, cerebral palsy and amputations who will compete on bicycles, tricycles, tandems and hand cycles.
