SOME HISTORY OF Crystal Palace Garden Party Concerts
The Crystal Palace Garden Parties started back in 1971 and were amazing shows and some of the earliest proponents of one day rock festivals. They continued regularly through the 70's and then with a few breaks until the 90,s. Usually there were two a year. The promoter back then was Harvey Goldsmith and associates and they often featured a somewhat strange mixtures of artists at times, but they always seemed to do well and the natural beautiful tree lined amphitheatre overlooking the lake setting was a nice place to go and see a music concert. The party atmosphere was something that always pervaded the area and was just infectious; besides which the list of artists that played there were like a who's who of the music Hall of Fame from: Eric Clapton to Bob Marley and the Wailers, YES, Deep Purple, Rod Stewart &the Faces, Elton John who turned up and guested on the Beach Boys show.
